Stillehavet – den sniken

wave-1043583_1920

The wind beneath our wings…

compass-1028422_1920

Finally!!

NORTHWEST AREA (LAT 18 TO 30 SOUTH AND LONG 95 TO 120 WEST):
WIND E/NE 15/20 KT, SEA STATE MODERATE (1.5/2.5 MT), VIS GOOD.

The forecast from Chile, via the amazing E. Pedersen and M. H. Randøy in the
Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue – Kristiansand (sjøredningskorpset i Kristiansand). The have tirelesssly been giving us SE after SE forecast, looking for different forecast, sending us several every day. And here it is. The amazing one. Thank you!!

Right now we have two søft/rev, because last night we sailed really hard and now we have to wait for Tupac, who are crawling up towards us again. Tomorrow morning, if they are close by and the weather allows it, we will take full advantage of the NE wind and go south, south, south.

Feel-good

red noenails

So, I was not in a very good mood after the forth guara broke. I had four hours to think about it, and I got frustrated. Esteban fixed the problem in an hour, he just expanded the fixed box for the guara, made three holes in a piece of wood we have for repairs, and there it was. A Brand new guara.
The crew picked up on my mood change, and did different things to cheer me up. Esteban gave me a hug, Cecilie and Pål used kind words, Bora a song and SigneGunvor gave me a present and red nailpolishbon my feet. It sure helped! I have wonderful people around me.

Gunvor

øystese

I am going to speed the next week on the 4-8 watch with Gunvor. I am happy to be on watch with her, and happy to try the 4-8 watch again. It is more like my regular sleeping cycle than 8-12, but i have been thinking that it is best for me as skipper to be available during the daytime. I am never far away, but I will need some more sleep during the day now than on 8-12.
Pål asked me if her could get off the 12-4, as he had been on it for three weeks. We had a watch change today, so now Signe has it, and Gunvor will get it he last few weeks before arrival. I will stay on 8-12 and 4-8.
Gunvor is from Øystese. The little town we can see from Jan’s parent’s hytte on Herandsholmen. She was n exchange student in America also, and has been studying outdoor life for three years in Telemark. She has been in Kristiansand a lot. In Grim also, where I grew up. Gunvor seems to like sowing. She has sown the sail, a cover for the galley, covers to separate the bunks and now she is sowing little patches on her undies where there are holes. I said she should make little hearts, and she did. She also spent an hour sowing a rope into the Cosmo-flag that we will be using to indikate the wind direction. She MUST be patient also.

Rainwow

spectrum-937560_1920

So tonight many things happened at the same time. The sun set beautifully, the 100% full moon rose, and there was a rain shower on top of that. So you have the most beautiful peach light which makes Gunvor and Bora look like top models, a double rainbow that exceeds the regular horizon to horizon, here it keeps going into the waves, My guess is a rainbow of 270 degrees!!
This is my first real WOW experience on the trip.

Ullhotpants

Kari 2

Sunset

sextant-272686_1280

Yesterday there was a beautiful sunset, but I was resting before my night watch, and did not see it. Tonight I will stay up and outside to see it.
Because there has been clouds and rain the last two weeks, we have had no chance to take meteorological observations, the sextant of Fagskolen i Kristiansand have been resting safety in my chest. Tonight i saw a sun down. I tried to use an app I have to get the position, but it didn’t quite work. The moon is soon full, and very bright, so it will be possible to take both moon and stars when it is not cloudy. I have almanac and a paper to draw the lines on.i am a bit excited to start, because I have never done it for real, only in school. But time will show if I can get it right. I hope so!
